RECYCLING and rubbish collection times will change across Somerset this Easter weekend.

Collections that would usually happen on Good Friday, April 18, will now take place on Saturday, April 19, instead.

There are no collections on Easter Monday, April 21, and collections will be one day later for the rest of the week, including Friday collections taking place on Saturday, April 26.

All 16 of Somerset’s recycling sites will remain open during the Easter weekend from 9am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, and on weekdays, sites will be open from 9am to 6pm.

Somerset Council ask that county residents present boxes, bags and bins by 7am on the day of collection, or the night before to help crews speed up collections. And with a likely higher volume of waste, residents are asked to squash, crush and flatten waste to help to reduce the number of trips that teams need to make to empty their trucks.

Almost all Easter egg packaging can be recycled in weekly kerbside collections, including cardboard boxes (black recycling box), aluminium foil and plastic moulds (Bright Blue Bag).

Not yet recyclable at the kerbside or at recycling sites are chocolate bar and sweet wrappers, plastic bags and plastic-foil pouches, plastic ‘windows’ in boxes, and similar thin-soft plastic film.

Many of these plastics can be dropped off at supermarkets and some are taken in TerraCycle recycling schemes.
