CARE home residents in Nynehead Court took out their toolboxes and built nesting boxes for National Nest Box Week.
The event, organised by the British Trust for Ornithology, is held annually in February because it is when birds begin to pair up and start finding locations for the breeding season.
The home’s residents built and decorated boxes for the home’s 13 acres of tailored parkland, which have now been installed by a team of gardeners.
Home manager Joanne Fenn said: “Our residents love watching the birds and other wildlife in our grounds, and have wonderful views of these from our drawing room or their bedrooms.
“We have hung treats alongside the nesting boxes to attract the birds, and cannot wait to see them arrive.”
The Nynehead Court estate offers ‘gracious retirement living’ for older people requiring residential care or close care housing.
It is registered to provide residential care for 44 people within the Court and close care housing for 11 retirees/couples within The Mews.
Within the Court, the extremely popular Mulberry Wing caters for those with memory impairment, or in need of greater stimulation, with a higher ratio of staff to residents.
At the other end of the spectrum, the 11 close care mews houses provide an opportunity to extend home ownership and live independently, safe in the knowledge that every level of care, support, and security is available, when and if required.
