A WELLINGTON resident, 78, who had windows his home and car windows smashed overnight says he ‘doesn’t feel safe anymore’.

Brian Carpenter was sleeping in his home that he shares with his grandson on Brendon Road on Thursday, April 3, when he believes bricks were used to break a downstairs window.

He also said the front passenger window of his car was also smashed between 12.30am and 3.30am.

Mr Carpenter said: “I don’t feel safe anymore. I’ve lived here for 46 years and I’ve never known anything like it.”

“When we heard the bang, my grandson thought I’d fallen. We didn’t really discover it until we got up in the morning.”

Nothing was stolen from the home or the car, and Brian says he doesn’t know of any obvious reason for the damage.

He added: “I don’t see why and I’ve been here all these years and I’ve never fallen out with anyone.

“People like this shouldn’t be running around our streets.”

The police were contacted at around 6am on the morning of the incident and Brian said someone attended the scene on Saturday, April 5.

A police investigation is ongoing.
