WELLINGTON Town’s impressive unbeaten start to the season in Division Two of the Under 12 section in the Taunton & District Youth League came to an abrupt halt with a 6-3 defeat in a tough match away to highflying Huish Tigers.
The home team attacked from the first whistle, putting Wellington under constant pressure. Huish Tigers left midfielder was a standout performer, causing problems throughout the game, and Wellington’s defence struggled to contain him.
Despite the loss, there were moments of brilliance. Freddie Andrews got on the scoresheet, while Theo Windsor added a second goal to keep the team in the fight. The highlight of the match came from Mason Talbot, who smashed in his first goal for Wellington with a spectacular 20-yard volley.
Watchet Town top the table after winning 4-0 at home to Ruishton Rockets to maintain their 100 per cent record.
They have a two-point lead over second-placed Huish Tigers who are second while Wellington sit alongside Kingstown Knights in joint third spot. Ruishton are bottom of the table, having lost all three of their games.
Although their unbeaten run has ended, Wellington will look to bounce back and take the lessons from this game into their next fixture in the cup on September 28.
