ON A sunny Saturday, the annual Moors Tournament saw two teams from Wellington U9s, the Wanderers and the Rangers, put on a fantastic display of youth football.
Both teams navigated their way through the group stages with grit and determination, securing their spots in the last 16. This achievement was made even more impressive as Wellington were the only club to have two teams progress to the quarter-finals.
In the quarter-finals, the Wanderers faced the reigning champions, Starcross, who boasted an impressive goal difference of +46 from the group stages. Despite their best efforts, Wanderers went down 1-0.
The Rangers, however, continued their impressive run, progressing through the quarter-finals and semi-finals to meet Starcross in the final. Although they put up a valiant fight, the Rangers fell short, losing 2-1 after extra time.
While Starcross deserve credit for retaining their title, the Wellington boys should be immensely proud of their performances..
The opposing coaches were full of praise, with several expressing interest in arranging future games to see more of the impressive talent on display.
The goal scorers for Wellington were: Harrison Thompson (8), Jack Jorge (7), Fraser May (2), Louis Molloy (2), Danny Creagh, Tom Kennan, Riley Lloyd, and Jude Norman, showcasing the attacking prowess of the young players.
