WELLINGTON 2nd XI can clinch the third division title in the Somerset Cricket League at home to South Petherton on Saturday, August 31.
They have a 24-point lead over main rivals and second-place Middlezoy, with both teams going into their last matches of the season.
South Petherton are lying fourth in the table while Middlezoy's opponents Spaxton are seventh.
Wellington need only 12 points to make sure of winning the championship, so they could lose against South Petherton but still finish as title winners.
Meanwhile, Wellington's first team play away to third-placed Golden Hill in the Bristol/Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League already knowing they will be relegated.
Their game at Golden Hill is their last of the season but they have a young side and will have gained experience at playing at a higher level following promotion.
Wellington's captain Arron Campbell said: "We always knew it was going to be tough playing against sides who pay their players.
“The lads will have learned a lot this season. We’ve got a very young side - at 27 I’m the third oldest player in the team.”
Wellington have won only four times this season.
