WELLINGTON'S opening match in the Bristol/Somerset Division of the West of England Cricket League will be away to Taunton Deane on Saturday, May 4 (12.00), writes Barry Knott.
Wellington were promoted at the end of last season after winning the Somerset Division without losing a game. This included two victories over Taunton.
Wellington's first home game will be against Midsomer Norton on the following Saturday.
The Bristol/Somerset Division will consist of the following sides: Clevedon, Congresbury, Downend, Golden Hill, Ilminster, Keynsham, Midsomer Norton, Taunton Deane, Wellington and Weston super Mare.
Although they played exceptionally well throughout last season, this will be a big step up for Wellington who will again be captained by allrounder Aaron Campbell, with continuing as vice-captain.
Although their Sri Lankan star Sandaken Pathirana will not be returning this summer, Wellington will have an overseas player in place before the season gets underway.
Wellington won all their matches last season, apart from two which were rained off. Their success was built on a good balanced side which could bat down to 11.
When matches were not going their way last season, Wellington always seemed to have a player capable of getting them out of trouble.
