WELLINGTON will be without at least two of their winning side against Wiveliscombe when they play away to Crediton in Regional Two South West tomorrow (Sat), writes Barry Knott.

Back rower Cam Venn has an ankle problem while hooker Liam Phillips has a damaged shoulder - both injuries sustained in the big Boxing Day clash.

Wellington go into tomorrow’s match having strung together three victories - the others being at home to Teignmouth and Sherborne in the league. They have not lost since they slumped to a 24-7 defeat away to Wadebridge Camels in early November.

Wellington coach Allyn Chetland said: “We always have close games against Crediton. We lost at home to them 43-17 earlier this season but the scoreline flattered them because they scored three late tries.”

There was only one point in it at one stage in the second half but Crediton proved far more clinical whereas Wellington fluffed the lines and squandered some good scoring opportunities.

Chetland added: “Crediton are going well in the league but if we can field a strong side and the gods are with us we can give them a good game - and even win. The Wiveliscombe game always takes something out of you, it’s like a cup tie. But we’ve had enough time to get over it.”

Crediton are lying third in the table, only three points behind second-placed Truro with two matches in hand.

Wellington 2nd XV were due to play at home to Yeovil’s second string in Counties Three Somerset South but their opponents have pulled out of the division which means they have no game.

Wiveliscombe, sixth in Counties One Western West, face one of their toughest games of the season when they play at home to Cullompton, who have a 100 per cent record after 13 matches. Wivey lost 37-19 away to the Devon side at the beginning of October.

Wiveliscombe 2nd XV will be looking to avenge a 24-19 home loss against Chard 2nd XV when the side plays away to the South Somerset outfit in Counties Three Somerset South.
