WELLINGTON RFC Under 12s attended the Cheddar Festival on Sunday and played some great rugby. They started by beating Maestag 2-0 and then Nailsea and Backwell 3-1 with Charlie P (3) and Archie A (2) scoring the tries.

They then played Cheddar and Joey H scored a good try after a barnstorming run. Cheddar hit back with a try before Wellington scored their best try of the day to win 2-1. There was some great offloading by Aedan M, Jack P and Will M as they went the length of the pitch. Cheddar defended their line well but after a couple of rucks Charlie P dived over for another try.

All the boys were playing really well but the games were getting harder with Kenilworth RFC up next. Kenilworth took the lead but a great interception saw Nathaniel T race clear from his own half to score.

Archie A then scored another to take the lead but Kenilworth hit back with the last play of the game to draw 2-2. The boys then faced a massive Bude team and were 0-2 down after a few minutes.

Previously the boys heads may have dropped facing such big opposition but these boys are now developing as a team and they came right back into the game. Charlie P ran through to score, but try as they might they couldn't get a levelling score.Next up were Gowerton RFC who would go on to win the whole competition.

They were a very well drilled side and with the Welly legs tiring Gowerton ran out 4-0 winners.

Wellington finished joint third in their group of 7 and then beat Winscombe 4 -3 in their play off game with Charlie P (3) and Archie A scoring the tries. Archie was voted player of the day by parents.

Meanwhile, Wellington U14s made the trip to Glastonbury on Sunday to take part in a three-way match-off with Tor and Crewkerne and came away not only unbeaten but scoring plenty of tries while only conceding one. There were outstanding team performance against both teams with the forwards dominating the scrums and rampaging in the loose and the backs providing a cutting edge when the ball came their way.

There were strong performances throughout the team but particularly noteworthy were Ethan C playing in the second row providing power in the scrum and CJ at fly half who only missed one kick at goal all match scored a try and controlled the game well.  Other try scorers included Alex A and Ben F.   Player of the Match voted for by the players was Tom C at prop who absolutely dominated his opposite numbers, tackled ferociously and was strong running with the ball and scored a try of his own.
