THE defence of Wellington Khaki Sox’ 2023 Championship has ended in a semi-final defeat to Plymouth Mariners. 

Wellington fielded a team of mixed abilities, played with heart and with the intention of giving players the opportunity to play in different positions.. 

Mat Smart, Natasha Hole and George Price all played their first full games in different positions, namely starting pitcher, catcher and 3rd base respectively. Matt took 3 strike outs and George Price made a great catch to dismiss Plymouth’s final player in the 7th innings. 

Although Wellington successfully made contact when batting, with many players injured it proved difficult to manage the base running.
