WELLINGTON, whose match at Street last weekend was postponed because of the bad weather, are set to play their first game of the New Year at home to Nailsea & Tickenham in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League tomorrow (Sat, 3pm).

Wellington expect to field a strong side although top defender Mark Cornish will have a late fitness test following illness.

Wellington will be looking to avenge a 4-0 away defeat by their rivals in mid-August when Wellington were certainly not playing very well and suffered an 8-0 loss at Falmouth not long after.

But they played some top teams last month - Torpoint, Buckland, Barnstaple, and Bridgwater - and only managed to take two points from these tough fixtures.

Such is Wellington's improved form they will be disappointed if they do not beat Nailsea, who are only three places above them in the table.

Wellington Reserves are again without a match in the first division of the Devon and Exeter League this weekend, and do not play until tomorrow week when they are at home to Newton St Cyres.

It's top v bottom in the first division of the Taunton Saturday League when leaders Wellington A play away to struggling Old Inn 98.

Wellington Reds, the footballing section of the local cricket club, play Wellington Road Dons in the quarter-finals of the Taunton League's Seward Cup at the Castle Sports Centre this evening (Fri, 8 pm).

In the Somerset Women's League on Sunday, Wellington Wildcats are away to Nailsea United, while Wellington Ladies are home to Combe St Nicholas in a match they should win.

Moortown play Panthers in Division One of the Somerset Sunday League at the Playing Field - also on Sunday (10.45 pm).
