WELLINGTON United shone in their first ever away match in Division Three of the Under 12 section in the Taunton & District Youth Football League.
Unfortunately, they came up against a side with a 100 per cent record this season and were beaten 1-0 by Bridgwater Victoria Park Rangers Eagles, losing out to a goal scored two minutes from the end.
Wellington dominated for much of the game with plenty of chances on goal and most of the possession pretty much throughout the game. Unfortunately, they were unable to put the finishing touches to some great moves.
Rangers sneaked a goal past Wellington’s keeper in a breakaway move but Wellington almost scored an equaliser with a last 30 second screamer from Blake Mead bouncing off the crossbar and, unfortunately, denying Wellington of what would have been a deserved goal.
With that came the final whistle. Well done to man of the match (chosen by opposition coach) Vinnie Taylor. Well done to Wellington’s player of the match, Sonny Rich.
Manager Steve Newstead said afterwards: “The boys played really well with some questionable decisions not going our way; unfortunate, but I’m so proud of all the boys; on we march”
