WELLINGTON Chess Club are soon to begin their season of competitive chess in the Somerset League.

Wellington’s top team of up to six players will play in the West Division along with five others from across the county. Wellington have also entered another team in the West Division Three along with four other teams from across the county. This team in particular is a great platform for Wellington’s impressive crop of new players and junior members to get a taste of competitive chess.

This promises to be an interesting season for Wellington overall, with record club membership levels and everyone keen to play. Team captains Alex Conway and John Jeremiah are keen to give new members and junior players an experience of Somerset League chess.

Along with the league season beginning, Wellington Chess Club’s internal championship is already well underway with 26 members actively playing competitive games on a recent Wednesday evening club night at Chelston Chapel.

The club championship at Wellington Chess Club is always hotly contested and leads to a huge amount of extra rated games to be played throughout the season in between league matches. All levels of play are catered for and everyone is well engaged in a good level of friendly competition.
