WELLINGTON will be chasing the season’s double when they play against relegated Bridgwater & Albion in Regional Two South West at Bath Road today (Saturday).
With only one game remaining, Albion are 13 points adrift at the bottom of the table, having won only three games all season. One was on the opening day of the season when they slumped 20-11 at the Athletic Field.
“The fact they are already relegated does not mean it will be an easy game - it’s going to be very difficult,” said Wellington coach Allyn Chetland this week. “The lads will obviously be looking to get back to winning ways after losing at Sherborne.
“Sherborne fielded a much changed side from the one which lost at Wellington early in the season. They are only three points behind third from bottom Newton Abbot and have a game in hand. We should be able to field a stronger side at Bridgwater.”
Wellington are seventh in the table, but would finish fifth if they won at Albion and against Sidmouth at home tomorrow week. Sidmouth are currently fifth.
A fifth-place finish would be great for Wellington who have had some selection problems this season but have been a match for any team when they can field a full strength side.
Meanwhile Wellington 2nd XV end an enforced break when they play at home to their Bridgwater counterparts in Counties Three Somerset South (3pm). Albion gifted the points to Wellington in early September - an early warning of what was to come for Albion.
Wiveliscombe have a derby game in Counties One Western West when they play at home to Tiverton who lost 22-17 to their rivals on their own ground earlier this season.
Wiveliscombe 2nd XV are away to Wells who have not won a game in Counties Three Somerset South this winter and have managed to score only 55 points.
