WELLINGTON will be looking to end a run of five successive defeats when they play away to Cheddar in the second round of the Somerset Premier Cup tonight (Tues).

Wellington have not won a game since they beat Odd Down 5-3 at home in the first round a month ago.

Since then they have lost four matches in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League and a tie in the Les Phillips Cup - to Ilfracombe Town.

Today's game at Cheddar comes only a few days after the club's management duo Richard Cherry and Jack Porter received the full backing of the club.

Chairman Mike Hall said: "The reality is we are playing agaiinst teams with much bigger budgets. Richard is under no pressure.

"Patience is the key. There will be times like last Saturday (beaten 5-1 at home by Brixham) when we will have results like this."

Cherry and Porter took over in the summer following the departure of Tim Legg and Alex Pope who stepped down after the 2022-23 season. Pope was offered the sole manager's job but turned it down.

Cheddar play in the first division of the Toolstation League where they are third from bottom.
