WELLINGTON A have made a winning start back in the Premier Division of the West Country Drainage Services Taunton & District Saturday Football League.
They travelled to play Minehead Reserves, who have a big squad of players to choose from, and came away with a 3-2 success.
“It was a good performance,” said Warren Toth who runs the side along with joint manager Matt Groves. “We were very solid and could have scored more goals. We created some good chances.”
Wellington, who won the first division title by a point last season, took the lead with a goal by Jordan Sellick but the seasiders hit back to level before the half time whistle.
Wellington stepped up a gear after the interval and Cam Perry-Jones, making a welcome return to the side after injury, put them 2-1 up before Tom Scarlett added a third for the visitors.
Minehead never seriously looked like denying Wellington of the points although they pulled a goal back ten minutes from the end.
In other matches in the division, Galmington crashed to a 6-1 home defeat against Wembdon while North Petherton caused a shock by beating champions Redgate 2-1 on their own patch.
Wellington A are home to Staplegrove Reserves this coming Saturday, September 7 (2p.m.).
