WELLINGTON A are champions of the first division in the Taunton Saturday Football League - after being relegated from the premier division at the end of last season.
They clinched the title with a 2-1 victory over Middlezoy Rovers Athletic at The Rec. They have finished one point ahead of Galmington, who pipped Bridgwater Wolves on goal difference for the runners-up spot.
Wellington appeared to be heading for a comfortable victory over Middlezoy when they led 2-0 at half time with goals by Connor Porter and Jordon Sellick. But they lost their way in a nervy second half with Middlezoy pulling a goal back 20 minutes from the end.
Wellington's joint manager Warren Toth said afterwards: "It has been a great season. We started the season in good form. But there were times when we made it difficult for ourselves and, of course, we had to win our last match to make sure of winning the league.
"I think we have done better this season because we have had a settled side. We have not been losing two or three players to the reserves..”
Toth runs the side with joint manager Matt Groves and it is not known yet whether they will be continuing in their roles.
