AFTER a three-week break from football, Wellington will be back in action when they play at home to Ilfracombe Town in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League tomorrow (2pm).

Wellington have not played since they gained a 1-1 home draw with leaders Saltash United, showing they are capable of competing with the best when they can field their strongest side.

Wellington are currently 17th of the 19 teams in the top division, but have games in hand on sides around them.

“This is not the position we wanted to see ourselves at this stage of the season,” said joint manager Alex Pope earlier this week. “It is crucial we get into a better position - and quickly.

“We have the players to move us away from the relegation zone.”

Wellington are expected to field virtually a full-strength side although the availability of on-loan Exeter City youngster Joe Wragg will not be known until late in the week. “This will often be the case with Joe,” added Pope. “Last time he was called away to play for City’s Under 18s.”

However, former Minehead defender/midfielder Stefan Phillips is now available to play regularly. He played for Minehead against Street Reserves last weekend, making a ‘guest’ appearance, and was Man of the Match in a goalless draw.

Wellington Reserves will be looking to improve on their sixth place in Division One of the Devon and Exeter League when they play away to University of Exeter 3rds who are lying only one place above them in the table but have played three fewer games. They beat Wellington 3-0 at the Playing Field in October.

Winkleigh, who beat Wellington 9-5 at home in a bizzare game seven weeks ago, remain leaders.

Wellington A, rooted to the bottom of the Premier Division in the Britainnia Lanes Taunton Saturday League, are away to third placed Galmington. Wellington have won only one of their nine league games this season.

Wellington Reds are away to Bridgwater Wolves Preditors in Division One with both teams on ten points from nine matches.

On Sunday Moortown are home to Ash Rangers Sunday in the Somerset League (10.45).
