HAVING played second-placed Falmouth Town earlier this week, Wellington face tabletoppers Helston Athletic at home in the Premier Division of the Toolstaion League on Saturday (3.00), writes Barry Knott.
It is their last home game of a hard, long season plagued by bad weather, causing a number of games to be postponed. Saturday’s fixture also coincides with the handover of the Playing Field to the cricket club who share the ground with the football club.
The floodlights will also be taken down on Saturday. After Saturday’s game, Wellington end their season with four away fixtures - against Bridgwater United (April 16), Oldland Abbotonians (20), Street (24) and Brixham (27).
Despite signing dual registration forms with Taunton Town, Wellington’s goalkeeper Jake Viney has committed himself to playing in all of Wellington’s games this season.Viney, who is in his second spell with Wellington, rejoined the club in January, having begun the season with Dorchester Town.
Meanwhile, Wellington Reserves will be back in action after an enforced break when they play away to struggling Bow Amateur Athletic in the first division of the Devon & Exeter League on Saturday.
Wellington are lying second in the table but have played more games than teams around them. However, they are still looking good for promotion.
