WELLINGTON Reds, the footballing section of the local cricket club, became the first team to beat Dunwear United in almost a year when they won 4-3 in a thrilling game in Division One of the West Country Drainage Services Taunton Saturday League at the Playing Field.
The Reds started strongly against Dunwear who were unbeaten since November of last year.
The scoring was opened by Tyler Fyfe who finely slotted home from an Aaron Hill cross. Jack Lewis notched two more for the Reds who went in at half time deservedly three goals to the good without a response from United.
Dunwear did not seem to have an answer to the Reds' fine play until an unlucky second yellow saw the Reds reduced to ten men.
Fine saves from keeper Luke Vernon and an outstanding on field performance from the whole team enabled the Reds to hang on for a tremendous victory with Fyfe snapping up their other goal, running out winners against their main rivals from last season who lost only once in winning the second division title.
Despite their defeat, Dunwear stay top but they have now been joined by Bridgwater Grasshoppers, both teams having nine points.
Reds are fifth, still 100 per cent after playing three games.
