IN the Wellington Bowling Club Thursday Afternoon Ladies' League the Doves, who have played well all through the season, came up against Swallows who wanted to show that they are also a very strong side.
Right from the start Swallows looked the most determined. Carol Connor, Angie Moore and Skip Ann Cowling's Swallows took an impressive 5 shots in the first end.
Janet Thorne, Monica Carter and Skip Maggie Milton's Doves were not about to roll over under the pressure and began a steady fight back.
At the halfway point there wasn't very much between the teams.
Swallows led by three shots 9 – 6 so no-one was laying any odds on the outcome but Swallows took off again and despite a late fight back by the determined Doves, it was the Swallows who went on to win the match 14 shots to 9.
The game was closely fought but both teams enjoyed the game and congratulated one another on their good bowling.
