MONDAY night saw the start of the spring session of the Somerset Squash League with the Wellington Squash Club 2nd team taking on Weston 2nd team. This term Weston have brought in a second team so it was interesting to see the make up as they do have greater strength in depth than a lot of other clubs.
And so it proved in this match with Wellington putting up a spirited fight before losing 19-4 to Weston. Details (Wellington names only ): Tessa Harris at 1 lost 10-15, 18-16, 14-16, 11-15. Simon Buttars at 2 lost 11-15, 10-15, 11-15. Dan Keywood at 3 lost 3-15, 11-15, 15-9, 6-15. Elen Turner at 4 lost 9-15, 16-18, 11-15. Ed Barrett at 5 lost 15-8, 7-15, 16-14, 12-15, 15-17.
Wellington Squash Club, which is based alongside the local sports centre and rugby club off Coram’s Lane, is always on the lookout for new members. The club has a web site and visitors are more than welcome to come along to the Wednesday evening club night to see what is on offer. There is plenty of room for parking.
Club facilities include two well maintained courts with changing rooms, bar and social area. Squash can be played at any time throughout the day. A court booking system is in operation so there is no need to ring up anyone to book a court. Court bookings are for one hour.
Coaching is available for all levels and every effort is made to help members develop their game.
The club is affiliated to England Squash. A re-stringing service is also available. An internal box league runs every month and this provides regular competition for members. Two club teams compete in the Somerset Squash League providing a good standard of squash for its players.
