DESPITE overcast skies and a chill in the air, Wellington AFC's Open Day at the Playing Field on Sunday (Aug 25) proved a great success.
The event attracted the youngest players within the club and involved 'in house' games including 'Beat the 'keeper' with parents, family and friends soaking up the atmosphere and the bar open throughout the event. Many of the club's youth and age group coaches also attended to supervise the day.
Wellington AFC, a three-star FA Accredited club, run more than 30 sides, providing football for hundreds of men, women, boys and girls.
Its first team play in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League and has already enjoyed success, despite playing all their matches away so far.
The club have four other senior teams and there are 24 teams in its youth and minis section with boys and girls playing from the age of seven through to 18 - along with coaching for even younger children.
The club also have a thriving disability section with two adult sides and two youth teams.
Off the pitch, Wellington AFC play a major role in the local community - the clubhouse is home to skittles and darts teams while the social facilities are in use throughout the year.
