WELLINGTON 2nd XV went down to a 26-22 loss away to their North Petherton counterparts.
Pethy were on the front foot for most of the first half and scored a penalty try and a yellow card against the Welly tight head.
Resolute defence from Welly kept the score board static until the Pethy winger scored in the corner, conversion missed. Still down to 14 men, Welly rallied. Lewis Leslie took a quick tap penalty and raced up field with the ball, putting a delightful grubber kick through, only to be tackled off the ball by desperate Pethy defence. Another quick tap penalty and a flat fast ball by Leslie to returning winger Dan Govier, who scored in the corner.
Welly started the 2nd half brightly and within 10 minutes Callum Warren scored a trademark try, crashing over from 5 yards. Colt and rising star Jon Long, scored and converted a try few minutes later. Welly now in the ascendancy, with a couple of poor decisions allowed Pethy to score a couple of converted tries. Welly then went down to 14 men after a red card. Undeterred, the Super 2’s finished the game strongly, with Freddie Coles scoring at the close of play.
