WELLINGTON’S hopes of gaining back to back wins in Regional Two South West were dashed when they lost 49-26 away to Wadebridge Camels in horrendous weather conditions.
Wadebridge, who had secured a narrow away win over second-placed Tiverton the previous weekend, went into the game in fifth place in the table, having won eight of their 11 matches, while Wellington were seventh with five victories from 12 matches.
Playing against a galeforce wind, Wellington found themselves trailing 21-7 after only 15 minutes, their points coming from a try by Cam Venn, which was converted by Danny Goverd.
As they continued to battle against the elements, Wellington found themselves 35-7 down as the Cornish outfit scored two converted tries.
Just before half time Jason Rowland scored a try for Wellington which was again converted by Goverd to make the half time score 35-14.
If they were to get back in the game Wellington needed to make a good start to the second half but it was Wadebridge who scored first to go 42-14 up before Mikey Taylor snapped up an unconverted try for Wellington.
And with Callum Warren going over for a try, converted by Goverd, Wellington earned themselves a bonus point before Wadebridge closed out the match with a converted try.
