WELLINGTON’S crucial home game against third-placed Crediton in Western Counties West on Saturday had to be called off because of a snow-bound pitch at the Athletic Ground.
“We tried everything we could to get the match played,” said Wellington coach Allyn Chetland on Saturday.
“But we could not get the right mechanical help and eventually had to call it off late in the morning.
“We had to make a decision to prevent Crediton travelling. We had enough helpers down at the ground but there was simply too much snow on the pitch. There was also frost in some areas.”
Wellington’s game against Crediton was scheduled to be the first of three tough games in a fortnight.
This Saturday, Wellington play away to leaders Sidmouth, while the following weekend they are home to second-placed St Austell.
“These games will define our season,” added Chetland. “We would like to have played on Saturday especially after our impressive win over Saltash the previous weekend. We’re playing with plenty of confidence at the moment. We have virtually a full squad available apart from Ash Harvey, who could be out for a month with damaged ankle ligaments.”
