WELLINGTON will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to 13 matches when they play away to Pirates Amateurs in the Cornwall and Devon League this coming Saturday, writes Barry Knott.
The Penzance-based side were hammered 94-7 when they played at the Athletic Ground in September but have improved considerably since then.
“We’re expecting things to be much tougher on Saturday,” said Wellington coach Allyn Chetland who described the side’s latest win over title rivals Saltash as “not pretty.”
“We played well in spells but Saltash are a good side,” said Chetland “We had to fight all the way. It was an edgy affair. But you would have expected this from two of the best sides in the division.
“We are now in a strong position in the league but we’re not getting ahead of ourselves. We are taking every game as it comes.”
Wellington will take a strong squad to Penzance although back row forward Chris Kitto, a try scorer against Saltash, and winger Tyler Hart are both ruled out.
Wellington, who moved up to second in the division after their victory over Saltash, are only four points behind leaders Penryn and have two crucial games in hand.
