LEADERS Wellington face a tough match at Kingsbridge as they chase their 12th successive victory in Western Counties West this coming Saturday.
Wellington have a two-point lead over second-placed St Austell - and a game in hand - following their 44-7 victory over Falmouth over the weekend.
Not only was it a well deserved win for Wellington but it also avenged their only defeat of the season.
“We took some time to get going and we were a little rusty early on,” said Wellington coach Allyn Chetland. “But in the end the boys played some decent rugby. We dominated the game especially in the second half, running in six tries.
“It’s not going to be easy at Kingsbridge because they are a very good side at home.”
Wellington should be at near full-strength although they will be without young back row forward Will Hodgson who is taking time out to go travelling along with some mates which include rugby pals James Blackmore and Liam Hayman.
Wellington will be looking to complete the double over Kingsbridge, having won 51-20 at the Athletic Ground in late September.
Wiveliscombe, fourth from bottom, face an even tougher away game - against St Austell. Wivey suffered their 11th defeat of the season when they lost 41-17 to Chard at The Rec.
“It was a bizarre game really,” said Wivey coach Peter Stone. “We were 14-0 up in the first half and also missed a couple of good opportunities. They snapped up a try just before the interval and we then completely folded in the second half. We gave away 18 penalties - our discipline was terrible.
“One of our problems is that we’re having to make changes every week. It’s been like this all season and we don’t expect it to be any different this Saturday.”
Wellington 2nd XV, who lost 29-13 at Midsomer Norton on Saturday, are home to Bridgwater & Albion in Somerset One this weekend, while Wiveliscombe 2nd XV are home to Morganians in Somerset Two South. They were due to play at Weston over the weekend but the Seasiders have pulled out of the division.
