WELLINGTON'S hopes of avoiding being dragged into a relegation dog-fight in Regional Two South West have not improved after they went down 42-12 away to Winscombe.
Wellington, who were again without the likes of Danny Lee, George Hodgson and Ash Harney, never looked like winning after trailing 22-0 at the interval.
It was Wellington's tenth defeat of the winter in what is turning out to be a disappointing season as they celebrate their 150th year anniversary.
Josh Mynett and Ollie Price, who captained the side, snapped up second half tries for Wellington who named veteran Tim Jenkinson on the bench.
Wellington 2nd XV, who were without a win since early November, gained a 34-22 home success over their Chard counterparts in Counties Three Somerset South.
Wellington won 36-27 when the sides last met in the league in South Somerset in early October.
Meanwhile, Wellington lst XV will be back at the Athletic Ground on Saturday, January 18, when they play Teignmouth in another crucial league game.
Wellington will be looking to complete the season’s double over their Devon rivals, having beaten them 20-15 in mid-October - a rare away victory for Andrew Bellamy’s outfit.
