WELLINGTON rugby skipper Danny Lee makes a welcome return to the side for the away game against Crediton in Regional Two South West on Saturday, December 7.

Lee has missed his team’s last two games after being sent off early on in the fixture against leaders Truro at the Athletic Ground three weeks ago.

His red card was considered harsh and the county’s disciplinary committee has agreed the alleged offence was ‘marginal’ and will allow him to play again.

Despite being without a number of players last weekend, Wellington gained a 29-21 home win over second from bottom Truro, despite twice being behind.

“The boys played with plenty of heart,” said head coach Graham Dawe afterwards.”Admittedly, we made a few mistakes and the penalty count was high. But it was a crucial win for us. I thought Tom Owen and Chris Batts both had great games.”

Looking to the match against Crediton, Dawe added: “They are a very difficult side to beat on their own ground. They have great defence.

“Obviously, I’m hoping that some of the players who could not play last weekend will be available.”

Topsham continue to set the pace at the top of the table and have an 11-point lead over their nearest rivals following a 67-19 home win over Newton Abbot in their latest match.

Fixtures: Crediton v Wellington, Cullompton v Tiverton, Newton Abbot v North Petherton, Okehampton v Teignmouth, Wadebridge Camels v Topsham, Truro v Winscombe.

In total, 26 of Wellington’s senior players could not play last weekend and the club was forced to call off the 2nd XV away game against Bridgwater & Albion in Counties Three Somerset South. It meant that Wellington dropped from third to fifth in the table.

Wellington Seconds have a home game on Saturday, December 7, against Cheddar Valley who have lost all ten of their matches this season.

Wellington Vixens, who have not played for three weeks, are set to play at home to Cheddar on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Wiveliscombe’s first team will be looking to bounce back after their loss at Redruth last weekend, when they play away to Bude on Saturday, December 7. Wivelicombe have slipped to fifth in the table after their loss at Redruth - only their fourth defeat of the season - while Bude are lying eighth.

Wiveliscombe 2nd XV’s 100 per cent record in Counties Four Somerset South will be at stake when they play away to Martock in a top of the table clash. Wiveliscombe have won all eight of their matches and have a four-point lead over second-placed Martock who have lost only once.

Minehead Barbarians, who lost 36-14 at home to Counties Two Somerset leaders Midsomer Norton last weekend, play away to Rebels Rugby.
