WELLINGTON Rugby Club have confirmed that ex-France Under 21 player Nic Sestaret will be remaining on the coaching staff.
Last season Wellington had two of the best coaches for a club of their size led by ex-England and Bath international Graham Dawe.
Sestaret joined Wellington in July of last year as backs and forwards coach and came off the bench to play a couple of times during last season’s championship-winning season.
“He has brought to the club something extra,” said Allyn Chetland, who is himself on the coaching staff. “He knows what it’s all about, having played professional rugby for 13 years – both in France and with Exeter Chiefs and Plymouth Albion in England.
“He will play for us again next season if needed but he believes we have a very good young team and wants this to develop as we believe it will. Many of the lads have been together for some time, having played for the Colts.”
Chetland admits, however, the lockdown is having a big impact on the club’s finances as it is with all sports clubs.
“Dave Wicks is our treasurer and he will be on top of it, that’s for sure,” said Chetland. “However, we lost the gates of three big matches at home last season, which is very disappointing.”
Wellington’s first team will be playing in South West One (W) next season, having won Western Counties West last winter.
“The lads have no fears at playing at a higher level and can’t wait to get started,” added Chetland.
Wellington 2nd XV will continue to play in Somerset One.
