CHRIS Batts, sidelined through injury since late January, is set to make a playing comeback to rugby with Wellington this season.

Batts played regularly at centre for the first team until he suffered a serious hand injury at work which prevented him playing again last season.

However, he is fit to play again and is already training for the new campaign.

“The lads are training hard and doing solo runs,” said Wellington coach Allyn Chetland. “They want to do well in South West One (W).

“It’s rather difficult to organise much while Covid-19 is having such an impact on the country. We would have held our annual dinner and handed out awards for the season by now.

“Just everything has been brought to a halt but at least the lads are keeping themselves fit. We’ve never played at South West One level before, so we want to give it our best shot. And, of course, we want to get started.”

Wellington’s coaching staff will again be headed by ex-England and Bath international Graham Dawe and former France Under 21 player Nic Sestaret, who could be called upon as a player if needed.
