MINEHEAD RESERVES 8 DULVERTON TOWN 0

BOTH West Somerset teams travelled to Bridgwater to test themselves against each other in the second round of the Taunton Saturday League’s Rowbarton Charity Cup.

Minehead in particular needed a confidence booster after their difficult start to the season and that’s just what they got.

Minehead came out of the blocks very quickly with some good fast flowing football which saw Dulverton chasing shadows. Fin Haran opened the scoring after two minutes with his first goal for the Reserves in his second game and it was followed up by an own goal conceded by Dulverton under pressure.

Andy Hall then got his first of the season when a cross/shot gave keeper Carl Hooper in the Dulverton goal no chance. Then a fourth from Scott Kivell to put Minehead 4-0 up after 10 minutes.

It left Dulverton clearly deflated with nowhere to go but to their credit they kept their heads up and continued to battle.

Minehead’s defence coped well with what little they had to do and they were all involved in attacking moves and when playing out from the back. Charlie Disney and Myles Campbell Farmer worked forward from full back into midfield and both JJ Knight and Harvey Lovell in the defensive hub showed great teamwork, having played as a partnership for over 10 years.

The midfield three of Dan Vickers, Oli Reaney and Curly Nields bossed the midfield an it was another slightly fortuitous cross/shot from him that sent Minehead in at the break 5-0 ahead.

The interval saw the opportunity to bring the experienced Luke Heath on at the back rotating with Knight and Lovell. More goals were scored in the second half at regular intervals with Kivell and Haran playing as forwards off of the veteran Andy Hall.

Haran was next with his second before Minehead introduced youngsters, Luke Batts and Leo Ahern to the game. Dan Vickers then scored his first of the season from close range following some unselfish play from Haran and Nields completed the scoring with his second.

There was time for Dulverton striker to have a good shot on goal before the final whistle bringing a good full length save from keeper Dan Pawson.

While it was a comfortable and much needed win for the Blues, Dulverton should be pleased that they didn’t give up and are introducing some promising youngsters who will be good for the future.
