WELLINGTON Lions have gained promotion to Division 1 of the Exeter and District Over 60s Bowls League.
They have bowled brilliantly for seven years and have been promoted from one division to the next every year.
They began in Division 8and have come up through the ranks to be where they are today.
They won their penultimate game away to Uffculme A last week after a hard fought match but the six points they came away with secured their move into the top flight.
To achieve promotion in the Over 60s league a team must be in first or second place at the end of the season. The Lions are in second with just one match to play and they cannot be overtaken.
Mike Copping, Nick Channon and skip Mike Groves were on top form and the Uffculme side could not get a look in. They did their best but the Lions were uncatchable, winning comfortably 19-5.
It was a different story on the next rink. Julian Street, Graham Brown and skip Paul Kelly started well. They were 5-2 up early in the game, but faded and Uffculme won 20-10.
When the overall scores were totted up, the Lions were purring all the way home following a 29-25 victor.y
