WELLINGTON Lions gained a really good win at home against Feniton Hawks in the Exeter and District Over 60s Triples Bowls League.
Mike Copping, Pete Nichols and skip Mike Groves found themselves in a tight battle on rink one. It was nip and tuck all through the first half and by the ninth end Wellington led by one, 8 shots to 7.
Something had to be done so skip Mike Groves told his lead bowler to bring the mat up several metres.
It proved to be a good decision because from then on the Lions won a lot more ends and went on to win the game comfortably, 23 shots to 9.
On rink two, Julian Street, Graham Brown and skip Paul Kelly also enjoyed a good game. In the third end they picked up a handy four shots and, not content with that, they grabbed an impressive six shots in the fifth.
Feniton's Hawks did all they could to claw back some shots but it was too little, too late, and they went down 25 shots to 11.
Wellington's Lions were very happy with their efforts, ending up with an overall score of 48 shots to Feniton's 20.
