FOR their first Rockwell Green Short Mat Bowls friendly of the year the Green travelled to Trull for a six-mat eight-ends match, their first trip to Trull since before Covid curtailed any matches.
Up first for Green, Laurine, Bill and Brian made a good start to be 7-3 up after six ends but Trull fought back to leave the Green hanging on, but surviving for a 7-6 win.
Next up Mick B, Cass and Bob were in all sorts of trouble finding themselves 5-3 down after five ends but a 5 on end 6 gave them fresh hope. They took end 7 by two shots. Trull did take the last end but the Green triumphed 10-6 .
Last up before the break Joy, Dave D and Mike R had a very tight game against Edna, Malcolm and Les with scores changing on a regular basis. Come the last end, the scores were level at four each but Trull gained 2 shots for the home team’s first win of the evening.
The customary break saw the Green holding a slender three-shot lead.
The restart saw Laurine, Bill and Brian playing a tight game until the last end when Trull scored a 3 to give them a 7-3 victory.
Following on, Mick B, Cass and Bob met Carol, Heather and Dave and another thight game ensued with scores level after five ends. The Green scored a 2 on 6 and ends 7 and 8 were shared giving the Green a 7-5 advantage.
Last up Joy, Dave D and Mike R were always playing catch up against Priscilla, Carol P and Malcom. The Green trio kept plugging away and only just went down 6- .
The final count saw the scores level at 36 each so a draw was a fair result.
The Green are trying a new idea for 2024 in nominating a player of the match. The first to claim this was Mick Bull for leading his team to two victories.
The Green look forward to welcoming Trull to the village hall in March.
