WELLINGTON Town concluded their 2024/2025 season with a comprehensive 3-1 home victory over Minehead in Division Two of the Under 14 section in the Taunton and District Youth Football League.
Wellington, having been soundly beaten by the visitors in the opening game of the season, looked a team transformed in the return fixture and took a well deserved lead after just 10 minutes of play; Archie Winter firing home from close range after outpacing the Minehead defence.
The visitors, above their opponents in the table, offered plenty of threat going forward, and sought to impose themselves through their combative attacking players only for them to be increasingly frustrated by Wellington’s determined defence which looked sound throughout the game.
Welly, their confidence growing as each minute ticked away, doubled their lead in the 25th minute; Winter - in a player of the match performance - turning provider as his deflected effort on goal was turned in by Fletcher Langley.
With renewed self-belief oozing from each and every player, Wellington grabbed their third. Langley was again on the scoresheet as he swept in his second of the afternoon to give the home side a 3-0 lead inside the first half hour.
And while Minehead clawed a goal back on the stroke of half time to give them hope, it was Welly who remained the more resolute of the two teams.
A gritty second half display from the home side, optimised by stoic defending and some outstanding counter-attacking football, saw Welly run out deserved 3-1 winners to end their season on a high.
