WELLINGTON Under 10s faced off against Minehead on Court Fields’ astroturf pitch - and piled up 28 goals in four matches.
The atmosphere was great, as parents and supporters turned out to cheer on the youngsters. From the first whistle, Wellington displayed a remarkable level of skill and teamwork that truly showcased their dedication to the game.
Wellington’s players embraced a lovely, passing style of football. They consistently sought to create opportunities by utilizing bounce passes and effectively switching play across the pitch. This dynamic approach kept Minehead on their toes and often left them struggling to keep up with Wellington's fluid play.
Defensively, both goalkeepers played a high line, which proved effective in tackling Minehead’s strikers before they could pose a serious threat. This proactive strategy from the back allowed Wellington to regain possession quickly and transition back into attack almost seamlessly.
Every player contributed positively, demonstrating resilience and a spirited attitude that reflected the core values of the club. The match was a true showcase of Wellington’s potential, as they finished the day by winning all four games and, astonishingly, scoring a total of 28 goals, Jack netting eight goals, while Rex, Rowan and Fraser also made significant contributions with four, three and three goals, respectively. The scoring was well-distributed throughout the team, with Louis (2) Riley (2), Ruslan (2), Harry, George, Harrison, and Bertie each adding to the tally.
However, this match wasn’t solely about the goals. The collective spirit and team play on display were commendable. Each player, from the goalkeepers to the forwards, played a vital role in this impressive victory and demonstrated the importance of teamwork throughout the matches.
