WELLINGTON will be looking to end a run of six successive defeats when they play away to Ivybridge Town in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western Football League on New Year’s Day.
Four of these losses have come in the league where they have slipped from sixth to 13th spot. More disturbing is that Wellington have failed to score in their last four matches, three of these being in the league.
Both Wellington and Ivybridge suffered defeats on Boxing Day. Wellington went down 1-0 at home to Buckland Athletic despite playing some good football at times while Ivybridge crashed 5-1 away to Brixham AFC.
Wellington boss Richard Cherry would dearly love to win his side’s last game of the year, especially as it was not long ago that Wellington won eight successive matches, including hammering Middlezoy Rovers 7-0 at home in a cup competition.
Recent results have been disappointing although one of Cherry’s problems has been trying to field a settled side.
