FIELDING only nine players, Wellington Ladies put up a spirited fight before losing 7-0 at home to second-placed Combe St Nicholas in Division Three South of the Somerset Women’s Football League.

The game saw the debut of new player Tyler, who displayed remarkable confidence and resilience, seamlessly integrating into the squad.

The first half proved tough as Coombe found the back of our net five times leaving Wellington with an uphill battle. However, the girls didn't let the scoreline affect their spirits.

In the second half, things got even more challenging as Wellington were forced to play with only eight players due to an injury. But the team adapted, swapping positions to make the most of the situation. Chloe, usually a midfielder, moved into defence, while defender Tash was pushed up to play as a striker.

This shift allowed Wellington to create some promising chances, with Jade coming closest to scoring as her shot bounced off the crossbar. Wellington conceded only two more goals in the second half, a testament to the team's resilience and tactical adjustments.

Although the scoreline reflected the tough circumstances, the effort and determination shown by every player was something to be proud of. Player of the Match: Lucy.
