WELLINGTON A lost a nine-goal thriller at home to Stogursey in the Premier Division of the Taunton & District Saturday League’s premier division, eventually going down 5-4 on the Court Fields School all-weather pitch.
Wellington, who won the first division championship last season, were 3-0 down at the interval but fought back to make it 3-2 before Stogursey pulled clear again.
Wellington’s joint player-manager Warren Toth said afterwards: “We played poorly in the first half. We lacked composure and discipline. We would have won it if we had not played so badly in the first half.”
Wellington scored four times in the second half - two of the goals coming from Jordan Sellick, while Dylan Owens and Max Muggleton-Browning netted the others.
The result left Wellington only one place above the relegation zone, with Wyvern United just below them with two matches in hand.
Wellington have another home game on Saturday (Jan 11) when they play Premier champions Redgate at Court Fields School, with a 2p.m. kick-off
However, Redgate are not enjoying such a good season as last, and have lost seven of their last 12 matches and are lying in eighth spot.
Galmington are the current leaders of the division and have an 11 point lead over their closest rivals.
