WELLINGTON will be strengthened by the return of goalscoring midfielder Josh Wadham for tonight’s home game against Buckland Athletic in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League (7.30).
Wadham has been on holiday for a fortnight and manager Clive Jones said: “Josh is a quality player and we’ve certainly missed him. “
Wellington beat Shortwood United 5-0 over the weekend but Jones has warned his players against complacency. “I know they (Shortwood) are bottom of the table but you can only beat what is in front of you.
“Our problem against Shortwood was that we had too much possession. We usually like to counterattack. But we scored five goals so we have to be satisfied.”
Wellington’s latest victory enabled them to move up to 12th in the table and another win tonight would push them up another two or three places.
Buckland are below Wellington but Cadbury Heath, Wellington’s away opponents on Saturday, are eighth after winning 2-1 at Bridport.
Charlie Bridges is also back in contention tonight while George Painter, who returned to the side against Shortwood, has also told Jones he will be available for the rest of the season.
Wellington Reserves, who put up a spirited fight before losing 3-0 away to leaders Kentisbeare in Division One of the Devon and Exeter League, have an attractive home game against Bridgwater Town Reserves in the second round of the Somerset FC County Cup on Saturday (3.00). The Reserves are not enjoying the best of luck. They missed a penalty at Kentisbeare and also had a perfectly good ‘goal’ disallowed when it was well over the goal-line.
Wellington A are home to Morganians Reserves in the third division of the Invest Southwest Taunton Saturday League while Hemyock are away to Feniton Reserves in Division Four of the Devon and Exeter League.
