WELLINGTON’S footballing brothers Sam and Jack Bryant have turned down possible moves to Toolstation League Premier Division rivals Buckland Athletic.
Their decision has delighted manager Clive Jones who said: “When they told me they had been approached by Buckland and might be going it was like a kick in the teeth.
“Sam is my club captain and Jack is a very good player - so I couldn’t afford to lose them. It’s great to see these two lads turning down the chance of money in order to play for Wellington.”
However, Jones has not been able to keep another Bryant, Conor, from joining Buckland.
“Conor goes with my blessing and if it doesn’t work out for him he will be welcome back at Wellington.
“I understand when a player leaves a club to play for a bigger club. But in this case Buckland play in the same division as we do.
“Last season I lost four players to Bridgwater - it’s very frustrating.
Wellington’s players reported back for pre-season training on Tuesday, and Jones was keen to sign on as many players as possible. “I’m hoping for some new players at training and am very hopeful,” he said before last night’s session.
