WELLINGTON side Moortown put up a spirited fight before going down 1-0 away to leaders Wyvern Wanderers in the first division of the Somerset Sunday Football League, losing a pulsating game to an 85th minute goal.

However, a makeshift Moortown side gave an excellent account of themselves. Moortown lost Dylan Groves to illness after five minutes. Moortown dominated the first twenty minutes, forcing a number of saves from the Wyvern keeper.

Wyvern then came into the game which became more end to end. The two goalkeepers both produced a number of fine saves, each keeping the scores level until halftime.

Kieran Conway came on at the start of the second half and produced a barnstorming performance in the midfield. Again the two goalkeepers were prominent. Dan Clapp in the Moortown goal produced a stunning save with the Wyvern striker though on goal.

The game was decided in a five minute spell from the 80th minute. The Wyvern keeper produced an incredible double save to deny Sam Poole. Only five minutes later a sweeping counterattack from Wyvern saw a cross met at the near post to finally break the deadlock.
