BUTLINS 3 MOORTOWN 2

A 92ND minute deflection decided this hotly contested match in the first division of the Somerset Sunday Football League which was played on a poor pitch at West Somerset College.

However, both sides contributed to an exciting match. Wellington side Moortown took the lead after twenty minutes through a fine individual effort from Wes Poulsom.

Butlins responded quickly through a fine header from a corner. After thirty minutes Butlins took the lead following a mix up in the Moortown defence. This was the last goal before halftime.

Moortown started the stronger in the second half putting pressure on the Butlins defence. This was rewarded with a penalty after 70 minutes which was tucked away by Ben Evett. Both sides pushed forward looking for the winner without success until a stoppage time corner landed at a Butlins boot, the shot taking a huge deflection into the bottom corner.

It was cruel luck for the Wellington side, who would have gone second in the table if they had won, following a brave performance. Moortown’s Man of the Match was Alex Davey.

This coming weekend Moortown are home to Dunster in another first division match.
