WELLINGTON Reds, the footballing section of the local cricket club, pulled off a 10-0 win over Porlock Reserves in the second round of the Taunton Saturday League’s Rowbarton Charity Cup at Bridgwater College Academy.
Reds were in front within two minutes - thanks to cup specialist Jamie Fleet slotting home a corner. The Reds then doubled their lead - again from a corner - with an Aaron Hill header. An unfortunate incident saw a Porlock player carried off just before half time. Luke Desave made sure the Reds went in 3 nil up.
Reds piled on the pressure with Jack Lewis scoring a second half hat trick and Aaron Hill scoring also two more. Returning Lewis Leigh scored a clever back heel and Desave scored a second to make it ten. Best wishes to the Porlock player who was injured in the first half.
Reds are in cup action again on Saturday, November 16, when they play Alcombe Rovers in the Somerset Intermediate Cup on the Playing Field (2p.m.).
Alcombe and Reds both have 12 points in the Saturday League’s first division but Reds have two matches in hand and have lost only once in the league this season.
