Wellington Wildcats Ladies 5, Weston-Super-Mare Ladies Reserves 0
WILDCATS returned to winning ways with an emphatic victory over Weston-Super-Mare on Sunday.
Despite playing with their first team top scorer, Weston-Super-Mare were no match for Wildcats who were superior in all facets of the game.
Playing down the slope in the first half Wildcats were quick off the mark and had a couple of early chances, but were unable to test the keeper while Leah Morrell was incorrectly flagged for offside when through on goal.
Jess Regan had a cheeky long range effort when she saw the keeper off her line, before Weston fired over the bar from close range.
The only goal of the first half came on 33 minutes; Charlotte Ayers played an excellent ball wide for Morrell to run onto, however she was hacked down by a Weston defender earning herself a yellow card.
Emily Ayers stepped up to smash the free-kick high into the top corner.
Weston’s star player now in defence, having being bossed out of the game by the outstanding Georgia Purdy, was lucky to escape without at least a caution when bringing down Ebony Sellick when she was through on goal.
Wildcats did almost get a second from a corner, but the referee deemed not all of Sellick’s shot had crossed the goal line.
The second half was barely five minutes old when Wildcats added to their tally.
Robyn Stockman received the ball wide out from Bryony Sellick before cutting in and unleashing a thunderbolt from the edge of the area.
Stockman doubled her tally with an equally impressive goal, having been played in by Coates following some excellent footwork.
Wildcats were now in complete control and two superb efforts from Purdy were met by outstanding saves from the Weston‘keeper.
Morrell grabbed a deserved goal on 80 minutes, hitting home from the edge of the area.
Deep into injury time, Regan headed the ball into the path of Ebony Sellick and with the final kick off the game she rounded off the scoring with the ball squirming under the away keeper.
Following the entertaining game wildcats were applauded off by the pitch by the 85 strong crowd, to whom the team are thankful for their support.
Wildcats would like to thank Milverton Sawmill for sponsoring the match.
Wildcats player of the day, sponsored by Mundy Veneer was Leah Morrell.
