WELLINGTON Reds, the footballing section of the local cricket club, were 6-1 away winners over Weston Village Firsts in the Somerset Intermediate Cup at Worle.
Luke Vernon, kicking well out of his hands, put Reds one up after the Weston keeper failed to deal with a long clearance which bounced on the edge of his area.
A surging Paul Pocock run led to a penalty which Jack Lewis neatly tucked away.
Tempers flared and Weston's centre back saw red for a horrendous challenge on Lewis, and then saw a second red for berating the referee.
Despite being a man up it was a scrappy end to the half with the visitors holding a 4-1 lead.
The second half started like the first ended, with Reds eventually running out convincing winners to go through to the next round with Luke Desave bagging himself four in the process.
The Reds are involved in a top of the table clash in Division One of the Taunton Saturday League on Saturday when they play away to Wellington Road Dons at Fivehead with a 2.30p.m. kick off.
Despite not playing a league match last weekend, Reds remain leaders of the division with Dons in third spot.
