RUGBY - Wellington Barbarians vs Wells Seconds: With the first team playing at home, Wellington Seconds were relegated to the Beech Grove pitch. With the recent dry weather the ground had firmed and was going to prove conducive to exciting flowing and running rugby.
After a cagey first 10 minutes and great work by the Welly forwards, Evan eventually crossed the try line for Wellington’s 1st try. Wellington proceed to play expansive rugby and coupled with resolute defence, meant that the 1st half finished with Wellington scoring 6 tries, 5 of which were converted by Ricky Marke. Try scorers Evan (brace), Jack Higgs, Rob Hooper, Ollie Williams and Will Kyte.
Playing up in the slope 2nd half and with a energised Wells side, the next 40 minutes looked to be a different proposition to the 1st half. However, this young exciting Welly barbarians, have fitness and flair in spades and scored another 6 tries (scorers, Jack Dyer, Callum Warren, Rob Hooper {a brace this half}, Louie Justice & Jonny Clist. 1 converted by Josh Harper), whilst preventing Wells from scoring any points.
A truly remarkable performance against a good Wells side. This was probably the most complete rugby performance by this talented side this season and included debuts by rising stars Mikey Taylor and Jonny Clist.
