THE second round of Wellington Ex-Services Skittles League’s Cyril Hicks singles saw some evenly matched skittles an the upstairs alley of the Conservative club.
Paul Desborough of All Stars had the only spare of the round to end up with a respectable 51 to ensure his passage into the final. Joining him had to be decided by a three way play off between Shaun Vile of Cottage Pies, Matty Gibbo of Oaks and Lee Ellis of Cottage Pies who tied on 47 after their allotted six hands. The play off saw Lee with 8 and Shaun with 7 just pip Matty who had 6 go through to the final.
The second group continued in much the same vein. Steve Dowson, skipper of Holywell Lake, started with a 13 spare although his fellow contestants kept in touch by not hitting anything less than a 7 in the opening hand. The second hand saw Sam Vile of Cottage Pies hit a 15 spare but unfortunately he could not capitalise on it and he narrowly missed out on a final place by 2 pins. John Barker of Scuppas was consistent throughout the evening and he went through with 46 He was joined by Theo Ling of Odds and Ends who also hit 46.
